POST FRAME CONSTRUCTION BASICS
We start with 5"x 5" treated post on 10' centers, set 3' in the ground.
A 2"x 6" treated bottom plate is applied to all enclosed walls.
We then apply a double 2"x 8" top plate along sidewalls
(single top plate on endwalls).
On spans 36' or wider, a 2"x 10" top plate is used.
Stamped and engineered trusses are set on top of the top plates on 5' centers.Roof and wall purlins are then applied on 26" centers. If insulation is used, it is then applied on the outside of the wood frame and under the metal.
29 or 26 gauge metal skins the outside, applied with screws or washer nails. The trim package finishes the building. Many options such as cupolas, windows, ridge vents,,wainscoting, steel skin walk-in doors, sliding doors, or overhead frame-outs will add the finishing touches to a technically superior post frame building.
Post frame homes are quickly becoming the most sought after housing option available. These homes have a superior structure, and are virtually maintenance free. Our post frame homes have posts on 8' centers, 2"x10" top plates (2"x12"s on spans of 36' or more), and trusses set on 2' centers. The design possibilities are endless!
